In an emergency meeting of the UN General Assembly on the situation in the Gaza Strip held on Tuesday evening, 153 countries out of 193 UN members voted in favor of a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees. 10 UN members voted against, and 23 members abstained. Thus, the majority of UN members oppose the continuation of the Zionist regime's crimes in Gaza which are carried out with the support of the United States. An attempt by America and Western countries to change the resolution and list Hamas as a terrorist group failed for the second time, due to opposition from UN member states and the failure to obtain the required number of votes. Britain, America's most important ally, and countries such as Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Ukraine also abstained from voting on the resolution. The Islamic Republic of Iran, in line with the decisions of Islamic and Arab countries, clearly reiterated its reservations regarding the proposed two-state solution to the Palestinian issue and the recognition of Israel, and voted in favor of the resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Amir Saeed Iravani, Ambassador and Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN, after voting by more than two-thirds of the 193 UN members in favor of a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, said, "The Israeli regime's crimes must be met with a firm reaction from the international community. "The United States' clear rejection of a ceasefire shows its support for war, violence, and ultimately more deaths for children and women in Gaza,"
