US Opposes European Country's Official Recognition of Palestinian State

The White House on Wednesday (22/5/2024) released a statement in full support of Israel, stating that President Biden believes that a Palestinian state must be formed through negotiations, not unilateral recognition.

US Opposes European Country's Official Recognition of Palestinian State

The White House in its statement added that this country believes a Palestinian state must be formed through direct negotiations between the conflicting parties.

A spokesperson for the US National Security Council, who declined to be identified, claimed in a statement that Joe Biden "strongly supports a two-government solution"; However, he added that the Palestinian government must not be recognized through unilateral recognition, but must be realized through direct negotiations between the two parties.

The White House response came after three European countries, Spain, Norway and Ireland, announced on Wednesday that they would recognize a Palestinian state, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he hoped other Western countries would “follow this step.”

America's hasty reaction to the actions of European countries in the field of recognizing a Palestinian state shows Washington's dissatisfaction with its European partners for taking a position that is in sharp contrast to the official position of the United States regarding an independent Palestinian state. The United States has repeatedly stated that a Palestinian state should be established through “direct negotiations” between the warring parties. In other words, the Biden administration believes that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state must be implemented through dialogue between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli Zionist Regime.

While the American side deliberately ignores this important fact, especially after the formation of the ultra-extremist and right-wing cabinet of Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the Zionist regime in January 2023, the issue of establishing a Palestinian state by Netanyahu government officials, including Itamar Ben Gvir, Minister of Internal Security has been rejected and the need to repress and kill Palestinians has been emphasized. Moreover, during the one and a half years of Netanyahu's rule, no action was taken in line with the so-called bilateral Palestinian-Israeli negotiations for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and instead, the severity and extent of the oppression that occurred against the Palestinian population in the West Bank and The Gaza Strip is increasing.

In addition, the Zionist regime, which is now entering the eighth month of the bloody war it is waging against the oppressed people of Gaza, continues to emphasize the continuation of this war, which has resulted in the death and injury of tens of thousands of Palestinians, and even requests its western partners to refrain from attacking Rafah in Southern Gaza is also ignored.

Now considering that more than 143 world countries recognize the independent state of Palestine, a number of European countries including Spain, Norway and Ireland, considering Tel Aviv's rejection of all forms of efforts to realize the plan to establish two governments on Palestine, they are now acting on their own and officially recognizing the state Palestine.

The important point is that at the same time as the three countries' steps, Ireland's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin, in an interview confirmed the serious determination of European countries to stop the Gaza war, and support an independent Palestinian state. Martin stated that the recognition of the State of Palestine is a message from our side to the Palestinian people and recognition of UN resolutions. He added that recognizing a Palestinian state is important, especially because Netanyahu's cabinet has taken steps towards destroying the two-state solution. He said: We are part of the global movement to recognize a Palestinian state in support of peace and a two-state solution. According to him, other European countries are seriously seeking to recognize the Palestinian state and will take steps in this direction.

Luis Miguel Bueno, a spokesman for the European Union, while indicating that the official recognition of the Palestinian state by three European countries was within their national jurisdiction, explained, "The Palestinian people have the right to become citizens of a state other than Israel, namely the state of Palestine."

In a meaningful analysis, The Guardian considers the support of European countries for the creation of a Palestinian state as the beginning of the end of the United States' guardianship of the Palestinian file and the increasing isolation of Tel Aviv in the eyes of the international community. The Guardian analyst considers the spark of support for a Palestinian state, especially on the Green Continent, to be very important and considers this alignment in supporting the Palestinians against Israel to have "an important impact" for European countries.

One of the most important impacts of the recognition of an independent Palestinian state by European countries can be considered "the beginning of the erosion of the United States' guardianship of the peace negotiation process between Israel and the Palestinian Authority since the beginning of the ceasefire negotiations and the Oslo agreements." This British media wrote at the end of its report: "Israel has realized that currently, the world's interactions with this regime are increasingly taking the form of a regime that is being rejected and this regime is increasingly isolated diplomatically (MF)."
