US Spy Plane Chased by North Korean Fighter Jets
The North Korean Armed Forces reportedly pursued a sophisticated United States spy plane, which entered the air zone of this country. Quoted from The Defense Post website, North Korean state media, KCNA, Saturday (19/8/2023) reported, "A US aircraft, Thursday morning entered the Exclusive Economic Zone, EEZ, North Korea in the country's eastern waters." According to KCNA, the North Korean Armed Forces immediately deployed its fighter jets to areas infiltrated by US strategic reconnaissance aircraft, to carry out security over the area. A spokesperson for the North Korean Armed Forces called the intrusion by a US spy plane a dangerous military provocation.
He warned that the North Korean Armed Forces would not hesitate to give appropriate retaliation for any form of US action, in order to protect the country's sovereignty. Last month, the North Korean Armed Forces threatened to shoot down any US spy drone that violated the country's air zone, and accused the US of increasing its espionage activities. On the other hand, the United States, Japan and South Korea are reportedly preparing to hold a summit at Camp David. Currently the North Korean Air Force has a fleet of 572 fighter jets consisting of hundreds of MiG-17, MiG-19 and MiG-21 aircraft made by the Soviet Union or China. (HS)
