The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that it is continuing its investigation into an outbreak of an unknown disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo that has killed a large number of people.

In Panzi province, located more than 700 kilometers from the capital Kinshasa, 406 infections have been reported and 31 deaths. The Congolese Ministry of Health has reported additional deaths that occurred outside health facilities that need to be investigated and confirmed .
The WHO said in a statement that most cases have been reported among children, especially those under the age of five, with symptoms of the disease, which is still unknown, ranging from high fever, flu and respiratory problems. Diseases such as malaria, pneumonia, COVID-19 and malnutrition contribute to the emergence of the disease.
Health Minister Samuel Kamba Roger has said that the government has sent a team of epidemiologists to assess the situation and determine the origin of the disease.
