The WHO statement explains that epidemic diseases have greatly worsened the health situation in the country in recent months due to riots and floods.According to the WHO, the Democratic Republic of Congo has faced an increase in conflict and violence, causing many people to flee their homes, widespread disease, sexual violence, and severe psychological trauma, especially in the east of the country.

Dr. Adelheid Marschang, WHO's Emergencies Officer, told a United Nations press conference in Geneva that "As a result, people are facing outbreaks of cholera, measles, mumps, smallpox and plague, all contributed by major floods and landslides affecting several parts of the country."

In addition, the World Health Organization says that more than one million children are at risk of extreme malnutrition in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as violence increases and increases the needs among millions of homeless people.

The impact on civilians from the more than two-year conflict between the Congolese army and the M23 militia allegedly supported by Rwanda in the eastern parts of the country is getting worse, causing more people to flee and 2.7 million homeless in Kivu North only.
