US President Joe Biden invited his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky to meet with him at the White House on Tuesday to discuss Ukraine's pressing needs. According to AFP, this meeting is planned at a time when the US Congress opposes a new aid package to Ukraine. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement that the two leaders would meet to discuss Ukraine's immediate needs and the vital importance of continuing to support the United States at this critical moment. The office of the President of Ukraine reported that Zelensky is going to discuss defense cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, in particular, the production of weapons and air defense systems. After Biden’s invitation to Zelensky, an informed source in the US Congress said that the new Speaker of the House of Representatives from the Republican Party, Mike Johnson, whose party opposed the new aid package to Ukraine, would also meet with Zelensky. According to this source, Republican leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also invited Zelensky to meet with him. So far, America has sent most of its military aid to Ukraine. The US Congress has approved more than $110 billion in aid to Ukraine following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
