Afghanistan has announced that the Pakistani military has carried out airstrikes in the eastern Paktika province, killing and wounding several civilians, "most of them refugees from Waziristan." The Ministry of Defense of the Taliban-led Afghan transitional government said the Pakistani military carried out airstrikes in the Barmal district of Paktika province.
Enayatullah Khwarizmi, a spokesman for the ministry, explained that the attack targeted civilians, mainly "refugees" from the restive Waziristan region of Pakistan.
According to Kabul, this is the second airstrike carried out inside Afghanistan, after the first in March, which was officially claimed by the Taliban regime.
Islamabad has not yet issued any response to the allegations made by Kabul. According to Khwarizmi, in the airstrikes, "several children and other civilians were martyred and injured".
The Afghan Defense Ministry statement continued: "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban regime) considers this barbaric act to be something that contradicts all international norms, is a clear aggression and strongly condemns it."
According to Khwarizmi, "The Islamic Emirate will not let this cowardly act go unanswered, but considers the defense of its land to be its inalienable right."
This comes as Islamabad has long accused Kabul of failing to take action against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, who are reported to be operating from Afghanistan. The Taliban government denies the claim.
In recent months, the TTP has carried out deadly attacks against Pakistani security forces, particularly in border areas.
