Al Sudani: Iraq Does Not Need the Presence of Foreign Troops
The Iraqi Prime Minister touched on the end of ISIS domination and said Iraq did not need the presence of the United States-led international coalition forces. Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, Tuesday (26/9/2023) in an interview with The National in New York said, "We don't need combat troops, what we have are military advisors, but their presence also needs regulation regarding their number, location and how long will they stay in Irakl." The Iraqi PM added that there must be a clear time limit for determining the length of foreign troops' presence in the country.
"This is part of what our sovereignty and stability requires, to remove any excuse from those who demand that weapons leave the country's control due to the presence of foreign troops," he added. At the same time, the Iraqi PM explained, when Iraq's security conditions are disturbed, as was done by the ISIS terrorist group, then the region and the world will also be disturbed. According to Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, now that ISIS is no longer a threat to Iraq, therefore the international anti-ISIS coalition, led by the US, is no longer needed. The previous Iraqi President, Mustafa Al Kadhimi, and US President Joe Biden have signed an agreement to officially end the US troop mission in Iraq at the end of 2021.
