The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan accused Armenia of putting obstacles on the way to peace. After the escalation of tension, Azerbaijan and Armenia again thought about negotiations and the conclusion of another peace agreement. The closure in December 2022 of the road that connects the liberated Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, as well as the growth of conflicts on the common border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, have practically turned the 2020 peace agreement into an ineffective agreement. After the escalation of tensions, the officials of the two countries have negotiated with each other many times, but so far these negotiations have not yielded results.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev accused the Armenian side of obstructing the process of peace negotiations the day before. According to the Club of Young Journalists, Aliyev on Sunday, in a conversation with his American counterpart Anthony Blinken, said that the presence of the Armenian armed forces on the territory of this country is an obstacle to peace. Aliyev said that Armenia's provocative actions impede the peace process, and the continued illegal presence of the Armenian armed forces on the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan is a cause of military tension in the region. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently stated that Yerevan is ready to officially recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of the territory of Azerbaijan if the rights and security of the Armenian residents of Nagorno-Karabakh are guaranteed. The 44-day war to liberate Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020 ended with Russian mediation and a ceasefire agreement known as the Tripartite Statement. The war ended with the end of Yerevan's control over parts of Nagorno-Karabakh.
