The United States is manipulating data released under the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), and the information shared by the US State Department does not comply with the treaty's counting rules, the deputy US secretary of state said on Monday. Russian Foreign Sergey Ryabkov.

"As for Western countries' attempts to score political points on information related to the size of their nuclear potentials, all of this is frankly hypocritical," Ryabkov said in a statement, released by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“First, the figures reported are often fictitious or biased. In particular, US New START data recently released by the US State Department continues to be misleading due to its inconsistency with New START counting rules, which Washington stubbornly tries to get around with unscrupulous manipulations".

Russia is transparent in nuclear matters and acts responsibly, Ryabkov said, when asked about the G7 statement which argues that by contrast only Western countries are transparent when it comes to nuclear weapons.

"The data on the size of the arsenals of the United Kingdom and France are not at all verifiable and are purely declarative", added the diplomat who finally underlined how the West is trying to undermine China and Russia with its rhetoric on nuclear weapons .

According to the document, the United States currently has 662 operationally deployed nuclear warhead carriers. Washington had 1,419 nuclear warheads deployed as of March 1. These data are contained in background material released Monday by the US State Department press service, which contains aggregate figures on the implementation of the US-Russia Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START).

According to the document, the United States currently has 662 operationally deployed nuclear warhead carriers. These include intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), heavy bombers (TBs), and submarine launchable ballistic missiles (SLBMs). In addition, the United States has a total of 800 deployed and undeployed ICBM, SLBM and TB launchers.
