America's Fear of the Combined Power of Russia and India
The Indian prime minister will visit Moscow for the first time since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The trip has alarmed American officials.
Referring to the Indian Prime Minister's visit to Russia, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, "The United States has expressed concern over India's relations with Russia." Pars Today reports that Miller, while expressing concern over the expansion of Indo-Russian relations, asked New Delhi to give necessary warnings to Russia regarding the war in Ukraine.
In this regard, he said: "I hope that India and any country that cooperates with Russia will clearly tell it to respect the UN Charter, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine." America is one of the main supporters of NATO expansion to the east, which poses a threat to Russia and an ally of Ukraine in this war.
The Indian prime minister, who arrived in Moscow on a two-day visit for the first time since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, met with Putin on Monday at the Russian presidential residence in Novo-Ogaryovo.
Modi wrote on the social network X that he was looking forward to the start of official talks with Vladimir Putin: "The trip to Moscow and talks with the Russian President will further strengthen the friendship between the two countries."
Official talks between the two countries' delegations are scheduled for today (Tuesday). During the talks, the parties are expected to focus on the economic agenda, energy cooperation, trade, and the production and supply of chemical fertilizers.
Given the war in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed by the West, especially the United States, against Russia, the development of cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi is of great importance for Russia.
Russia considers it very important to deepen relations with its allies in order to resist political and economic pressure from the West.
New Delhi and the Kremlin have had close ties since the Cold War, and Russia has long been India's largest arms supplier.
At the same time, India has become a major buyer of Russian oil, providing Moscow with the export market it needs after losing contact with traditional buyers in Europe.
