Ankara will buy 40 F-16 fighter jets from the USA for 23 billion dollars

The Turkish authorities have signed the letter of acceptance of the offer sent by the American side regarding the purchase of new F-16 Block-70/72 fighter jets and the modernization of existing aircraft.

We are talking about a project worth 23 billion dollars. The US State Department announced this, calling this fact a "serious step forward" in the direction of the implementation of the deal.

Ankara received the draft proposal and approval letters from Washington in February 2024 on the implementation of the agreement on the purchase of new fighter jets and the modernization of old ones. The transaction itself was approved by the American authorities in January.

In total, Turkey plans to buy 40 F-16 Block-70/72 fighters in single-seat (F-16C) and two-seat (F-16D) variants, as well as 79 equipment kits needed to upgrade and expand the Turkish F- 16C/D Block-40/50+ aircraft service life.
