Appeal of the German Chancellor to China on the subject of ending the war in Ukraine
The German chancellor on Tuesday urged China to use its influence with Russia to help end the war in Ukraine.The Chinese Prime Minister arrived in Germany yesterday Tuesday and upon arrival met and spoke with President Frank Walter Steinmeier.
According to the Anatolian News Agency, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a joint press conference with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang: "We once again asked Beijing to use its influence on Moscow regarding the war in Ukraine, since China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, bears a special responsibility."
Scholz also warned about sending weapons to Russia and said: "It is important that China continues not to supply weapons to Moscow as an aggressor."In the midst of NATO exercises, the German chancellor said that the members of this military alliance are fully prepared to confront any threat from Russia.A few months ago, China presented a 12-point plan for peace talks in Ukraine that includes a call to defuse tensions in the first phase.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a recent telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he would soon send a special envoy to Kiev and other countries to help establish a "deep connection" with all parties for a political solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
