Arab League warns of all-out war in Sudan
The Arab League has warned that the conflict in Sudan could escalate into a full-scale civil war. Armed conflicts in Sudan began on April 15 between army forces and rapid reaction forces for power. These conflicts have killed thousands of people and made hundreds of thousands refugees. According to AAA, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, secretary general of the Arab League, said at the 160th meeting of the Arab League Council: “Sudan is now closer to a full-scale civil war than ever before.” Aboul Gheit added: "The crisis in Sudan continues and has resulted in enormous consequences that the people of this country are unable to bear." He noted: “As conflicts continue in the cities of Sudan, the number of fugitives and those who have fled their homes is increasing, and the lives of civilians are becoming impossible.”
The Arab League Secretary-General also stressed that government institutions and facilities providing basic services in Sudan are being destroyed. On the other hand, RT reported on Wednesday that heavy fighting continued between Sudanese army forces and rapid reaction forces in the south of Khartoum and in the city of Omdurman. According to this report, 19 civilians were killed as a result of artillery shelling between the sides in the Ambeda area of Omdurman. Accordingly, the Rapid Reaction Force launched a heavy artillery attack on the headquarters of the Army Engineering Unit in Omdurman from early Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, the Sudanese army also used drones to target positions of the Rapid Reaction Forces in the East Nile and Al-Jarif areas in southeast Khartoum.
