Assad denounces US military presence

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says US occupation forces have turned their military base in the Arab country's strategic al-Tanf region, near the borders with Iraq and Jordan, into a bastion for Takfiri terrorists.

“We have direct encounters with terrorist groups near the Al-Tanf area and, of course, we know from these encounters and from the detainees where they came from. Al-Tanf represents an entire terrorist camp and has no other targets. What does the United States gain from it? get out of their presence in this area in the heart of the desert? No doubt they have camps for terrorists housing tens of thousands with their families,” Assad said.

"We are sure, the evidence is indeed there," Assad added, saying the US may be transporting terrorists from Syria to Ukraine in an attempt to confront Russia. “In regards to this, we have no evidence, but that would be expected. The United States redeploys terrorists from one place to another, plus the terrorists move themselves.”

"In Syria there are those terrorists they call "Islamic terrorists", those who hide behind religion. There is no religious war in Ukraine, but they [the terrorists] are there, judging by the videos circulating on the internet ' Assad continued.

Al-Tanf is a small outpost in southeast Syria along the Baghdad-Damascus highway. In theory, US troops have used the base for counter-terrorism operations against Daesh (ISIS) and to train Syrian fighters since at least 2016.
