Real threats to Armenia's security are being generated in Azerbaijan, said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Pashinyan noted that Armenia is reforming its army in order to defend its internationally recognized territorial integrity and sovereignty, including by Azerbaijan. Moreover, according to him, this is an internationally recognized right of any country, and even challenging it is a gross violation of international law.
" Do the reforms being implemented in the Armenian army have any connection with Azerbaijan? Both yes and no. No, because Armenia has no plan, intention or goal to carry out any military operations against Azerbaijan. Yes, because the threats to the security of the Republic of Armenia are generated in Azerbaijan itself ," Pashinyan emphasized.
According to him, contrary to the agreements reached in Prague, statements are being made at the highest level from Azerbaijan that question Armenia's territorial integrity.
Pashinyan noted that these statements are most fully formulated in the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" discourse, which is sponsored by the top leadership of Azerbaijan, and in the fundamental documents of the organization of the same name, about 60% of the sovereign territory of Armenia is called "territories currently controlled by the Republic of Armenia" or "territory controlled by the legal and political entity called the Republic of Armenia."
"Now let's combine this with the theatrical trial taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan's acquisition of billions in weapons, and official Baku's aggressive rhetoric, and it will become clear that real threats are being generated in Azerbaijan against the security of the Republic of Armenia," Pashinyan wrote.
At the same time, he noted that a solution to this situation is on the table, and it was developed as a result of joint work between representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to the Prime Minister, the already agreed articles of the peace treaty have completely resolved not only the issue of the absence of territorial claims against each other, but also the issue of not making such claims in the future.
The signing of the peace treaty, in his opinion, forever closes the door, which was already closed in Prague, for both Armenia and Azerbaijan to ever make territorial claims against each other.
Pashinyan noted that the agreed part of the peace treaty is quite weighty and ripe for signing, although Armenia has proposed comprehensive solutions to the two unagreed articles and is awaiting a positive response from Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman said today (Tuesday) that Pashinyan's statements that Baku may be preparing to attack Armenia are incorrect.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ayhan Hajizadeh said: "In the article published in Armenpress on February 10, 2025, the Armenian Prime Minister's claim about Baku's readiness to attack Armenia, as well as numerous other unfounded claims, were made to distort reality and deceive the international community."
The spokesperson added that since 2021, Armenia's annual military spending has almost tripled, from $600 million to $1.6 billion.
He noted: "Based on recently signed military agreements, Armenia has purchased equipment that can attack deep into the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan."
