Blinken: Putin is not achieving his goals in Ukraine

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has made a surprise visit to Ukraine amid a new Russian offensive.

"The United States has been by your side since day one. We are with you today and we will stand by you," he affirmed.

"You have denied Putin the main goal - to wipe Ukraine off the map," said the US Secretary of State.

He noted that US President Joe Biden resumed munitions shipments to the Ukrainian state "within a minute" after Congress approved a $61 billion aid package.

"We are bringing Ukraine closer and then to NATO," the American official asserted and added that "we will make sure that Ukraine's bridge with NATO is strong."

Weapons from a new US aid package for Ukraine are starting to arrive on the front lines.

After a year of political deadlock in the US, President Joe Biden approved almost $61 billion worth of military support in April.

At least $8 billion will be used to re-supply Ukraine with missiles and ammunition.
