Bloomberg, Monday (18/12/2023) reported that Yemen's steps to prevent ships heading to Israel in the Red Sea forced Tel Aviv, asking for US help, to act militarily, but this effort does not appear to be supported by Arab countries. "US efforts, countering Yemen's actions, to attack ships in one of the world's most important sea lanes are facing major obstacles due to infighting among Washington's Arab allies," wrote Bloomberg. He added that the two most crucial actors involved in the Yemeni war, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, had different attitudes, making it difficult for the US to confront Ansarullah in Yemen. The UAE wants military action against Yemen, but Saudi Arabia is pressing for a more measured solution, fearing any violence could make Ansarullah more aggressive. A Saudi official told Bloomberg, "The military move could jeopardize the Yemeni and Saudi ceasefire, and Riyadh's efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement with Sanaa could fail." It turns out that not only Saudi, which refused to cooperate with the US, and Israel, to form an anti-Yemeni military coalition, previously Egypt, was also reported to have taken a similar stance. Quoted by the Al Araby Al Jadeed news site, Monday, an Egyptian government source said that Cairo did not intend to enter any coalition to fight Yemeni forces, and was prioritizing negotiations. (HS)
