Bolivia Wants to Join BRICS
The Bolivian Embassy in Moscow presented suggestions to Russia regarding its country's desire to join the BRICS. According to Sputnik, Head of the Bolivian Diplomatic Mission in Moscow, María Luisa Ramos Urzagaste said Wednesday (2/8/2023), "We communicate Bolivia's desire to join the BRICS to all member countries. Then after a BRICS decision, they will invite the president ( Bolivia) to the summit." By 2022, BRICS announced it would increase the number of member countries to make the organization more inclusive.
At least 19 countries, including Argentina, Iran, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, have expressed an interest in joining the economic bloc. The BRICS Summit, which will be held in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24, will be held with the participation of China, India, Brazil and South Africa. Russia will send Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to attend this meeting and Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the summit via video conference.(PH)
