Brazil: Bolsonaro returns Saudi jewels
Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro today returned to the authorities jewels that had been given to him by the Saudi Arabian government and which he had kept in his possession without declaring them to the tax authorities. On orders from the Court of Auditors, his lawyers handed over a case containing a Rolex watch set with precious stones and other jewels worth about 500,000 reais ($80,000), Bolsonaro adviser and former minister, Fabio Wajngarten, told the GloboNews channel. . The precious goods were found on a farm in Brasilia, belonging to the former Formula One world champion, Nelson Piquet, one of the main financiers of Bolsonaro's 2022 election campaign. The one delivered today is one of three sets of jewels donated by the Saudis to the former right-wing leader when he was president. The jewels - including a diamond necklace for former 'first lady' Michelle Bolsonaro, and whose total value amounts to about 3.4 million dollars - were introduced in Brazil by the former Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, and its collaborators.
