Canada enforces sanctions against Russian individuals and companies
Canada recently imposed sanctions on 42 Russian individuals and 21 companies and organizations. The Canadian Foreign Ministry announced that this action was taken in connection with alleged human rights violations and support for violence against regime critics. Among the individuals affected are Anton Kotyakov, Russian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, and Yevgeny Primakov Jr, head of the Russian Federal Agency for Commonwealth Countries.
In addition, some institutes and media outlets were also added to the sanctions list. These include the Moscow State Research Institute of International Relations, the Higher School of Economics, the Universiade Military Patriotic Movement, the Russian Geographical Society, the Valdai Dialogue Club, the BRICS National Research Committee, and the First Movement of Russian Children and Youth.
These actions on the part of Canada follow similar actions by the U.S. and other Western countries, which imposed comprehensive sanctions on Russia and sent significant amounts of weapons and military equipment to Kiev in response to Russia's operations against Ukraine.
