China presents a plan to resolve the Ukrainian crisis
BEIJING - Here is the peace plan presented by the Chinese government exactly one year after the Russian attack on Ukraine. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has published a statement containing its country's position on the political resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
The document published on the Ministry's official website contains 12 points.
1. It stresses the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and observes that "all countries are equal, regardless of their size, power or wealth". The need for equal and uniform application of international law and the rejection of double standards are underlined;
2. Beijing calls for abandoning the Cold War mentality and stresses that regional security cannot be achieved at the expense of strengthening and expanding military blocs. Attention is drawn to the need to take due account of the legitimate interests and security concerns of all countries;
3. The third paragraph, entitled "Stop hostilities and stop war", clarifies that "in conflicts, wars have no winners". China believes that all sides must maintain restraint, not add fuel to the fire and prevent the Ukrainian crisis from escalating further or even spiraling out of control. He also underlined the need to resume direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev;
4. The fourth point is dedicated to peace negotiations. The Chinese side emphasizes that dialogue and negotiations are the only real way out of the Ukrainian crisis. The need to create conditions and provide a platform for the resumption of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine is underlined;
5. Beijing affirms the need to support all measures that help mitigate humanitarian crises and the inadmissibility of politicizing humanitarian issues;
6. In the sixth point, China expressed its support for the exchange of prisoners of war between Moscow and Kiev and noted that all sides should create more favorable conditions for this. The need to protect civilians and prisoners of war was stressed;
7. The PRC has stressed the need to counter armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities, such as nuclear power plants;
8. The eighth paragraph underlines the inadmissibility of the use of nuclear weapons. Beijing opposes the use or threat of use of weapons of mass destruction;
9. China has called on all parties to implement the agreement on transportation of grain through the Black Sea. It is noted that China's proposed international food security cooperation initiative can provide a real solution to the global food crisis;
10. The tenth paragraph states that Beijing does not agree with the misuse of unilateral sanctions in the context of the Ukrainian conflict, as the restrictions do not contribute to solving the crisis, but only create new problems;
11. The eleventh paragraph calls for the stability of production and supply chains. China also calls for resisting politicization of the global economic system;
12. In the final paragraph, China stated its readiness to assist and play a constructive role in post-conflict reconstruction in the conflict zone.
