The US always causes tension in the region with its military presence on the Korean Peninsula, the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, so China always warns the US about military action. According to Reuters, after the US announced that the country had decided to return to operation an airport in the Asia-Pacific region, which was used for the atomic bombing of Japan during World War II, the Chinese Ministry of Defense appealed to the countries of the region to be on alert. Chinese military spokesman Wu Qian said on Thursday: "The Chinese military is closely monitoring US activities in the region and will resolutely defend its maritime rights, security and sovereignty in the region." Earlier, a US Air Force general told the Japanese newspaper Nikkei (Nihon Keizai Shimbun) that the US military would make “significant progress” in the coming months in restoring the North Airfield on the island of Tinian with the aim of stationing aircraft in the region to counter China. This abandoned World War II airfield is located on Tinian Island, one of the Northern Mariana Islands in the US territory, 200 km north of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.
