According to Sputnik news agency, in the city of Santiago de Cuba (the second largest city in Cuba), on January 1, in the presence of the President of this country, Miguel Diaz-Canel, a ceremony was held to mark the 65th anniversary of the victory of the Cuban Revolution. At this ceremony, the President of Cuba, speaking about the 65-year path of revolution in this country, pointed to the historical turning point on January 1, 1959, when guerrillas under the command of Fidel Castro successfully entered the city of Santiago de Cuba and he announced the escape of the dictator from Cuba Fulgencio Batista and the end of the war. Miguel Díaz-Canel also highlighted the efforts made over more than six decades to preserve the spirit of the 1959 revolution and defend state sovereignty and independence. Pointing to the progress made in the fields of education and health in recent years, the Cuban President emphasized Cuba's cooperation with hundreds of medical groups that provide services in several countries during natural disasters, health crises and epidemics, as well as in extensive campaigns to spreading literacy around the world. In his New Year's message, he also stated: "The secret of the survival of the Cuban revolution against the background of all problems and troubles lies in the participation of the people in a unique story of resistance and creativity, with a strong leader and fundamental principles." In this message, the President of Cuba once again condemned the economic, trade and financial sanctions against the country imposed by the United States for more than 60 years. These sanctions have a negative impact on the development and life of Cuban society. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, for his part, in a message published on his personal account on the social network X, described the Cuban revolution as follows: “It is a revolution that grows in the face of adversity and despite inhumane sanctions, moving forward with the determination of the Cuban people men and women who never fail."
