Earthquake in Syria and Turkey, almost 20 thousand dead
The number of victims of the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday has risen to almost twenty thousand. According to the latest toll released by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the dead are at least 16,546, to which must be added the 3,162 victims recorded in Syria. The Turkish civil protection agency (Ahad) has announced that it has recorded nearly 650 aftershocks after the two earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.6 that occurred on Monday. The continuous tremors make rescue operations even more difficult, given the presence of numerous unsafe buildings which, however, must be entered in search of immobilized or injured people.
