England's central bank raises rates again, to 5.25%
The Bank of England (BoE) raised UK rates from 5% to 5.25%, ... an increase of a quarter point as an anti-inflation function. This is the fourteenth consecutive increase decided by the Monetary Policy Committee of the central bank of London. Turn your back on politics that defends the environment: the British Conservatives have decided that this is the last card to try to avoid a defeat now predicted by everyone in next year's elections, or at least to reduce its size.
A desperate move, in contradiction with everything the Tories have been saying for almost two decades, but evidently it seems to them the only way to avert the worst. For the first time since the Brexit referendum in 2016, the British who would vote today to return to the European Union have exceeded the 50% quota. This was revealed by a latest survey by YouGov, for which, if they revoted today, only 32% would instead choose to say goodbye to the EU, while the rest of those consulted are undecided. Specifically, 19% of those who voted to leave Europe 7 years ago now consider their decision to be wrong.
