Niger, the US calls for the immediate release of President Bazoum
US President Joe Biden has called for the immediate release of deposed Niger President Mohamed Bazoum, according to the White House in a statement. Bazoum was dismissed following the coup d'état carried out by the militants in Niger on 27 July. Biden's appeal took place on the 63rd anniversary of his independence in 1960.
The French citizens in Niger, around 600 people, were warned with a message from the Paris embassy in the African country,... that "an evacuation operation by air is being prepared", which "will take place very soon".
