EU belegt iranischen Verteidigungsminister mit Sanktionen
The European Union (EU) has imposed sanctions on Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani, the Defense Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with five members of the Iranian Navy and Revolutionary Guards. This decision was announced by the Council of the EU member states on Friday in Brussels.
The sanctions are in response to allegations that these individuals have been involved in supplying drones for Russia's military actions against Ukraine, as well as providing drones and missiles to the Middle East and the Red Sea region.
As part of the sanctions, the targeted individuals will face asset freezes and travel bans within the EU. Additionally, the provision of funds or economic resources to the listed individuals and entities, whether directly or indirectly, is prohibited.
These measures underscore the EU's ongoing efforts to address and mitigate the impact of external military support in conflict zones, particularly with regard to the conflict in Ukraine and regional stability in the Middle East.
