EU explains details of 10th sanctions package against Russia
According to EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the 10th package of EU sanctions will target Russian companies and technologies that are fueling the war in Ukraine. After the EU-Ukraine summit in Kiev, von der Leyen tweeted: “Our nine sanctions packages have hit Russia hard and the 10th package is already on its way.
The President of the European Commission announced that the European Union's 10th package of sanctions against Moscow will be implemented by February 24, exactly one year after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel visited Ukraine on Thursday under the strictest security measures.
Canada also announced that it had sanctioned 54 individuals and entities with Russia ties for "Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine." The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued on Friday evening: 38 individuals and 16 institutions were sanctioned. Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly claimed Ottawa approved these sanctions in the context of Russia's illegal invasion and attempt to annex Ukraine to its territory.
The statement by the Canadian Foreign Ministry went on to say: Various organizations, including the media group Mia Russia Segdonia, which has the media outlets Ryanovsti, Prime, Tok, Kut and Baltnews under its umbrella, were sanctioned. Oleg Stepanov, the Russian ambassador to Canada, called these sanctions "ridiculous" and said: "These sanctions show that Ms. Joly serves Ukraine and the US well." He added: These sanctions will be answered. We respond to any unkind actions by the current Canadian authorities. When the unkind actions stop, we see no need to react either.
