EU supports new ceasefire plan in Gaza Strip
Representatives of the European Union welcomed the ceasefire plan proposed by the US President on Friday in the Gaza Strip.
Council of Europe President Charles Michel, posting a message on his social media page X, welcomed "the proposal for a ceasefire, the release of hostages and the reconstruction of Gaza, and especially thanked the efforts of Qatar, Egypt and the United States."
In turn, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von Derlein, called the Zionist regime's road map for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip "realistic" and considered it "an important opportunity to end the war and the suffering of civilians in the Gaza Strip."
Also, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell announced his support for Biden's plan for a long-term ceasefire and the release of hostages, which "will lead to a final cessation of violence, the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the start of reconstruction efforts."
US President Joe Biden announced on Friday that Israel has proposed a new three-phase agreement that proposes an end to all violence in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages still imprisoned in the Gaza Strip.
The proposal announced by Biden consists of three stages, the first stage of which will take place within six weeks, with a full ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from populated areas in the Gaza Strip and an exchange of prisoners.
Biden asked Hamas to accept the agreement and also called on Benjamin Netanyahu to resist pressure from hardline members of his Cabinet who oppose the road map. However, Prime Minister Netanyahu's administration has expressed its desire to continue fighting in the Gaza Strip until Tel Aviv achieves all of its goals in the Gaza war.
In addition, Hamas said on Friday that it considers Biden's new proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to be positive.
