China will boycott the meeting of G20 tourism ministers that India has scheduled for May 22-24 in the territory of Kashmir, disputed by Pakistan. This was clarified today by Beijing's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin, joining Islamabad in condemning New Delhi's decision. “China opposes holding any kind of G20 meeting in a disputed territory, and will not participate in such a meeting,” Wang said. The meeting in question should be held in Srinagar, the capital of the territory of Jammu and Kashmir, whose special status was revoked by the Indian government in 2019, provoking heated protests from the local Muslim community and from neighboring Pakistan, which for decades has claimed own sovereignty over the entire region. Relations between China and India have become particularly turbulent in recent years, especially after the clash between the two armies that took place in the summer of 2020 in the Ladakh region, along the common border (also disputed) in the Himalayas.
