In a recent statement, a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas has accused the United States of actively supporting and leading Israel's military operations against Gaza. Mahmoud Mardawi, speaking to Al Jazeera TV channel, asserted that America has bolstered the Zionist regime with military, diplomatic, political, and economic aid, effectively joining in the war against the Palestinian people.
Mardawi emphasized the Zionist regime's commitment to adhering to ceasefire agreements while criticizing America for what he described as misleading propaganda efforts. He accused the U.S. of attempting to portray Israeli officials as proponents of peace and resistance, while casting Palestinians as obstacles to peace.
"We expect America to realign its stance in accordance with the principles and priorities it professes," Mardawi stated, underscoring the Palestinian people's determination to defend their land and their fundamental rights.
Highlighting what he sees as a pivotal role of U.S. support, Mardawi suggested that economic and military aid from the United States is crucial in maintaining the status quo of the occupying regime, preventing its potential downfall.
The remarks by Hamas come amidst ongoing conflict in Gaza, where recent reports from international agencies highlight extensive damage to infrastructure and civilian casualties as a result of Israeli military actions.
The United States, a longstanding ally of Israel, has provided significant military and economic assistance to Israel over the years, although it has also supported various peace initiatives aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
As tensions persist in the region, Hamas's accusations underscore deep-rooted grievances and the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The U.S. Department of State has not yet issued a formal response to Mardawi's allegations.
