The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement (Hamas) has reiterated its opposition to the remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding the issue of relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip under the pretext of rebuilding the area.
A statement issued by Hamas described Trump's remarks as racist and a call for ethnic cleansing with the aim of destroying the Palestinian liberation struggle and depriving the Palestinian people of their national rights.
Hamas has said that the plan to expel Palestinians from Gaza will not succeed, and that it will be confronted by a united Palestinian, Arab and Muslim stance that opposes all plans to forcibly displace people.
US President Donald Trump has unabashedly reiterated his controversial proposal to seize and control the Gaza Strip, saying he is willing to "buy and own" the war-torn territory.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said Gaza should be considered "a great piece of real estate" and insisted: "We are committed to owning it, taking it, and making sure Hamas never comes back. There is nothing to go back to. It is a destroyed area."
On February 4, Trump revealed in a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House his country's intention to annex the Gaza Strip after relocating its entire Palestinian population to other countries. The plan has been opposed regionally and internationally.
