Elon Musk, Head of the US Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has said that the country's Treasury Department is riddled with massive waste and that it is paying people $100 billion in airtime every year.
Musk wrote on the X social network and added: "Yesterday, I was told that currently over $100 billion is being paid to anonymous individuals every year."
The American billionaire who owns the Tesla car company and the social network X, the former Twitter, said: "When I asked people at the Treasury Department how much of that money they think is being given away in blatant fraud, everyone said it's about half of it, which is $50 billion a year or $1 billion a week!! This is absolutely ridiculous and needs to be addressed immediately."
Elon Musk's remarks came as a US federal judge blocked Elon Musk and his department from accessing sensitive and confidential information from the US Treasury Department.
According to a complaint filed in federal court in New York, the Trump administration has allowed Musk's team to access the US Treasury Department's central payment system, which is essentially a violation of US federal law.
Judge Paul Adam Engelmayer, who was appointed by former US President Barack Obama, emphasized in the ruling that all people who have information about the department since January 20, when Trump was inaugurated, must be blocked and must immediately delete all such information.
