Igad to manage a meeting to resolve the conflict in Sudan
The Governing Council of Sudan has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Governmental Organization for the Development of East Africa, IGAD, to convene an emergency meeting of the heads of the community with the aim of investigating the internal crisis in Sudan.
The agreement has been announced after talks between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, head of the Sudanese Governing Council, and Ismail Omar Guelleh, the President of Djibouti who is the current Chairman of the Intergovernmental Association for East African Development (IGAD), in Djibouti. In the talks, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the current situation in the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Radio Forces, RSF. The Governing Council of Sudan has announced in its statement that: General al Burhan has presented a report on human rights violations and crimes committed by the RSF against Sudanese citizens. Referring to the talks in Jeddah under the mediation of Saudi Arabia and the United States to end the conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF forces, the head of the Sudanese Governing Council said: We support the issue of stopping the war and restoring peace for the lives of the people of Sudan.
General al Burhan has also met and held talks with the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Workneh Gebeyehu, and the two sides have agreed that a meeting of the heads of the organization will be held soon in the capital of Djibouti, to present a road map for ending the internal conflict in Sudan . After the conversation, the Executive Secretary of IGAD has written on his X social network page that: I have spoken with the head of the Sudanese Governing Council about a permanent cessation of hostilities with the aim of improving the humanitarian situation and laying the foundation for finding a solution to the political end. Thousands of people have been killed and millions of others have become refugees in the ongoing fighting between Sudanese army generals for power.
