UNHCR needs more than 200 million dollars to help refugees in the DRC
The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has announced that it needs more than 200 million US dollars to meet the needs of people who were forced to flee their homes in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
UNHCR representative in DRC Angele Dikongue Atangana said this in Kinshasa, during the first meeting of this year organized for the ambassadors of foreign countries in DRC .
" I emphasized to the donors that we are very grateful for what they do to support us, in the work we do, but there is room to do more. Because unfortunately the situation is not good. And as a last resort, I told you that considering all these growing needs, in terms of humanitarian needs, we need more than 200 million US dollars. Last year we barely reached 50 percent funding. Therefore, 50 percent of the funding is less than what we should be able to do for people who are suffering," he said .
The aim of this meeting was to present the latest news from this United Nations organization and to advocate for high-quality cooperation between all stakeholders to meet the needs of people who had to leave their homes in the DRC .
