India's prime minister suggests that Africa get full membership of the G20
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed that the African Union (AU) get full membership in the Group of 20 (G20) during the meeting of the group in New Delhi next month. Speaking on Sunday at the 20th Business Summit in New Delhi, Modi said: "We have a vision of inclusion and with that vision, we have invited the African Union to become a permanent member of the G20," On the sidelines of the BRICS summit on Thursday in South Africa, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil said BRICS supports the inclusion of the African Union in the G20 group of nations. As the G20 Summit approaches on September 9-10, Modi has said that heads of 40 countries and many international organizations will arrive in the Indian capital to participate in the summit, which will be "the largest participation in the history of the G20."
The G20 this year also invited nine non-member countries "guests", including Bangladesh, Singapore, Spain and Nigeria, in addition to international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. an intergovernmental conference of developed and developing countries that have made major economic strides in the world. The group includes 19 countries and the European Union (EU). The G20 includes about 85 percent of the world's GDP, more than 75 percent of global trade , and nearly two-thirds of the world's population - but South Africa is the only member from the African continent. India currently holds the presidency of the G20, a position that rotates annually among member countries.
