The president-elect of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has rejected the reports of some international observers who opposed the results of the country's general election. Mnangagwa was giving his speech to celebrate the White House on Sunday and said that he won the election fairly and will not be distracted by other opinions. He added that, "I am aware that some members of the observers exceeded their duty and began to question the law passed by our parliament. It is my opinion that every independent country passes its law through its parliament and Zimbabwe also did so." He also said that he did not manage the election but participated as a competitor and added that: "I am happy that I won the election." Mnangagwa thanked the people for re-electing him to serve as President of Zimbabwe. "There is more work to be done. Together, as one united people we will continue the chain of prosperity witnessed in the past five years, no one and no place will be left behind". He has also called for peace after the election.

"Until now, we have shamed the enemies who wished to see us divided and in chaos. We will remain a united, peaceful and tolerant people, from Zambezi to Limpopo, Plumtree to Mutare, singing one national anthem with pride, under one anthem and national flag ." Nelson Chamisa has also said: "My fellow Zimbabweans; In this post-election period we are now entering, let us continue to be vigilant and jealously guard the existing environment of peace and stability. What unites us is greater than what can divide us." Mnangagwa won the election with 52 percent of the vote against 10 other candidates including his main opponent, the leader of the People's Party (CCC) Nelson Chamisa who got 44 percent of the vote. Chamisa said the opposition will form a new government, without giving details. He did not answer questions about whether his party will challenge the results in court. Chamisa has told journalists and party officials that "We will not wait for five years. There has to be a change now."
