General Qassem Soleimani, Deputy Commander of the Iraqi Hashd al-Shaabi forces, Abu Mehdi al-Mohandes, and their 8 companions were martyred on January 3, 2020, as a result of a US airstrike near Baghdad Airport. Ahead of the fourth anniversary of the assassination of General Soleimani, the Permanent Representation of Iran at the United Nations, in a letter addressed to the High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated that this assassination was deliberate, arbitrary, unjust and illegal. Referring to the legal steps taken by Iran after the assassination of General Soleimani, the letter said that the Islamic Republic will continue its efforts to bring those responsible for this killing to justice. In the letter, the Iranian representation at the UN also referred to the killing of Iranian military adviser Razi Mousavi and two other Iranian advisers in Syria on December 2, 2023.
