Ireland to officially recognize the independent state of Palestine

Before that, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland welcomed the adoption of a resolution in support of granting full membership to Palestine in the United Nations and said that the time has come to determine the fate of the people of that country.

The resolution proposed by the countries of the Arab Group on the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations was approved on Friday 10 May in the General Assembly of the United Nations with 143 votes in favor.

The resolution gives Palestine special rights and privileges and asked the Security Council to review with a positive attitude the request of the Palestinian nation to become the 194th member of the United Nations.

Currently, Palestine is not a non-member observer and has been trying for many years to become a full member of the international body.

The Palestinian effort was opposed by the United States with a veto vote last month in the United Nations Security Council.

By passing the resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Palestine has been recognized as a country eligible to become a full member.

Spain, Malta and Slovenia also announced earlier that they intend to recognize the independent state of Palestine by May 21. So far 141 countries have recognized the country of Palestine.

At the same time, President Michael D. Higgins of the Republic of Ireland, has strongly condemned the action of the Zionist settlers to attack the humanitarian aid convoys sent to the Gaza Strip and said that these attacks are taking place when the Palestinians of Gaza are suffering from hunger.

The media of the Zionist administration reported yesterday that the settlers have attacked the trucks that were carrying humanitarian aid near the holy Quds which is occupied by occupation.

The President of Ireland has also said that the workers who send aid to the Gaza Strip are currently facing a terrible and terrible situation and added that in the city of Rafah on Monday a car with a clearly visible symbol of the United Nations (UN) was shot by the Zionists and one of the workers was killed and several others were injured.

More than 35,000 Palestinians have been martyred and 79,000 others have been injured since the Israeli forces started attacking the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
