Italy's government ignores demonstrations against Israel and in support of Palestine
The nations of the world have taken a stand with huge demonstrations condemning the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza
through the Israeli colonial occupation of Palestine, but on the other hand there are the governments of the United States and the European Union who still continue to support the Zionist regime politically, militarily and economically, even refusing to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. On the contrary, governments such as Bolivia have broken diplomatic relations with the occupying regime, while the deputy prime minister of Belgium has stated that it is time for Israel to be subjected to sanctions. The impunity Israel has enjoyed and continues to enjoy among European governments no longer appears tolerable. For these reasons the people of Italy believe that Meloni's government should completely interrupt all diplomatic, military and economic relations with the occupying regime, and put an end to all collaboration.
The great mobilization of solidarity with the Palestinian people must be accompanied by a vast and widespread mobilization that forces governments and companies to put an end to any collaboration with the institutions of the Zionist regime. From the point of view of the institutions, it is necessary to return to asking for the revocation of the 2005 Italy-Israel military cooperation memorandum and the termination of the collaboration agreements between local authorities, Italian universities and Israeli institutions. From an economic point of view, the revocation of economic agreements between Italian and Israeli companies must be imposed, up to the boycott of Israeli products on the Italian market. It is time for a broad movement like the one that ended the apartheid regime in South Africa to come into play.
For years the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement has placed this urgency on the Italian and international political agenda. In order not to leave things as they are and continue to develop the mobilization and activation recorded in recent weeks in solidarity with the Palestinian people, we need a "shoulder" that makes a just peace in Western Asia between Palestine and Israel credible. We Italians intend to discuss this collectively in a national assembly on Sunday 19 November, at 10:00 am at the Rome Intifada (via di Casal Bruciato, 15), to relaunch the importance of the boycott and sanctions against the occupying Palestinian regime. We invite all forces to bring their contribution to the discussion and implementation of the next initiatives in this sense.
