Japan will continue to put sanctions pressure on Russia and support Ukraine
Japan will continue to put sanctions pressure on Russia and actively support Ukraine.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, emphasizing his country's support for Ukraine among journalists on Wednesday, added: "All this time, Japan has been actively promoting the policy of sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine." According to NHK WORLD news agency, pointing to a recent telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Matsuno explained that the parties emphasized their commitment to continued support for Ukraine.
Let us recall that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the Japanese government, as one of the main US allies in East Asia, has joined Washington’s anti-Russian campaign. Of course, the decision of the Japanese government caused a reaction from Moscow, led to retaliatory measures from the Kremlin, and harmed the interests of the Japanese people.
For example, prohibiting Japanese fishing vessels from operating in the waters around islands that are located in Russian territorial waters, or suspending negotiations on the disputed islands of the two countries (the Kuril Islands) cost the Japanese people dearly. However, despite the losses caused by the victory over the United States, Tokyo still insists on supporting Washington against Russia.
