Los Angeles Times: It's Time for the US to Change Course on the Gaza Issue
Josh Powell, former director of the US State Department, said in an opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times, "The current campaign in Gaza is not producing results, and it is time for the United States to change course."
Alluding to the Zionist regime's brutal attacks on Palestinians in Gaza, Powell wrote, "Unfortunately, after more than three months, we see the United States and Israel, its main allies in the region, still seeking the first option among all other solutions." This former American official wrote, "Consider Israel's real goals in its military operation in Gaza, namely the release of prisoners and the destruction of Hamas. To date, Israel has not achieved either goal and can probably only choose one of them, with little chance of achieving both," . Josh Powell also wrote, "Reconstruction of Gaza will cost tens of billions of dollars and will take a decade under the best of circumstances. Meanwhile, Arab countries have told the United States that they will not invest in the construction of facilities that will be razed again in five years later,". He further mentioned the situation of Palestinians who survived these attacks and added, "There is no adequate infrastructure to feed, clothe and employ them in Gaza." The American politician added, "Everywhere you look, there are only dead ends. In the current situation, the most likely future is one without a Palestinian state and without a clear alternative. A future without a ceasefire in which Israel regularly attacking areas they consider to be a threat both in Gaza and the West Bank,". "In the Palestinian future that everyone can imagine, Israel loses its chance to achieve lasting peace, becomes increasingly isolated from the international community, and never achieves the real security promised to its citizens. The United States also loses its moral credibility," Powell wrote. Regarding US support for Israel, Powell revealed that President Joe Biden will continue to unconditionally provide Israel with weapons to destroy Gaza and diplomatic cover to prevent a real political solution or any accountability under international law. In the end, he emphasized that Biden remains committed to whatever path Israel takes, even if it harms America.
