Mass demonstrations in support of Palestine in the Greek capital
Thousands of Greeks demonstrated in support of the cause of Palestinian freedom and condemnation of the crimes of the Zionist regime and its allies. According to the Turkish newspaper Yeni Shafak, after permission from the PAME trade union to organize the march, the march was attended by Youssef Drahm, the Palestinian ambassador to Greece, and Dimitris Koutsumpas, general secretary of the Communist Party of Greece, the fourth largest party in that country. Demonstrators gathered in Athens carrying Palestinian flags and placards condemning the Zionist regime, the United States and the European Union for decades of crimes, and chanting slogans in support of the oppressed Palestinian people.
During his speech at the rally, Drachm said: "Our people will never stop fighting for the right to life and freedom of Palestine from the clutches of the Zionist occupation regime." Koutsompas, in turn, addressed Greek demonstrators: “Our country should not participate in the killing of Palestinians by Israel.” Earlier, Ione Belarra, Spain's minister of social rights, announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would stand trial at the International Criminal Court for committing war crimes in Gaza and called for the suspension of Madrid's diplomatic relations with Israel. He also, as secretary general of the left-wing Podemos party, stressed the need for economic sanctions against the Zionist regime.
