A Mexican journalist was shot and killed in the parking lot of a store yesterday in the southern tourist city of Acapulco. This was reported by the regional authorities. This is the second murder of a journalist in the country in a week. Prosecutors said they had opened a homicide investigation following the killing of Nelson Matus, which came days after the body of fellow journalist Luis Martin Sanchez was found "with signs of violence" after being found she had been reported missing. Dozens of journalists demonstrated in the port of Acapulco, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, to ask state and federal authorities to shed light on the killing of colleague Nelson Matus on Saturday.

Protesters blocked the main avenue Costera Miguel Aleman yesterday, carrying banners and cardboard crosses, while shouting slogans demanding justice. "We feel anguish to think that any of us could be next," Ernesto Caballero said during the protest. Matus was director of the news portal Lo Real de Guerrero, which specialized in crime news. According to the prosecutor's office, he was murdered in the port of Acapulco, in the parking lot of a shopping center in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. There have so far been no arrests related to this crime.
