Nearly half of Danes believe the US is a threat to their country

The results of an opinion poll conducted by the UGO Research Institute in the UK have shown that 46 percent of Danish citizens believe that the United States is the main threat to their country.

The results of the opinion poll showed that 78 percent of Danes oppose the sale of Greenland to the United States and 72 percent believe that Greenland itself should decide its future, not the Danish government.

The opinion poll was conducted between January 15th and 22nd of this year with the participation of more than one thousand Danish citizens.

US President Donald Trump announced on January 7 that Greenland must become part of the United States to ensure the country's national security in the face of threats from China and Russia.

In 2019, also during his first term as president, Trump proposed purchasing the island of Greenland, however, Danish and Greenlandic leaders called Trump's proposal illogical.

Greenland is a self-governing territory under Danish rule and since 1979 the island has had the right to hold a referendum on the future of the territory.
