New move from the USA against China: sends aircraft carrier to Vietnam

The United States added to its moves against China by sending the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier to Vietnam, with which it had improved relations from 1994, after fighting and losing in 1955-75.

The US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan docked in the port of Danang, weeks after Vietnam protested the cruise of Chinese ships in its waters. The USS Ronald Reagan will stay in Vietnam until the end of the month as the US and Vietnam celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 'comprehensive partnership'.

The US Embassy in Hanoi announced that the aircraft carrier, which is part of the 7th Fleet that "supports the freedom and openness of the Indo-Pacific region", has arrived with two escort carriers, the guided missile cruisers USS Antietam and USS Robert Smalls.

Landing in a short ceremony, US Navy officials shook hands with their Vietnamese military counterparts. With Vietnam, which has increasingly close commercial ties, some US concerns about China's growing power in the region overlap.
