Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has claimed that Syria’s new government consists of an Islamist extremist group from Idlib that forcefully seized control of Damascus. “The new Syrian government is a terrorist group,” he stated. While Israel welcomes the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power, Sa’ar accused the new administration of seeking revenge against Alawites and harming the Kurdish population.

Sa’ar also warned that Israel would not compromise on its border security. He alleged that Hamas and Islamic Jihad were attempting to establish a new front against Israel within Syria.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a military event, reaffirmed that Israeli forces would remain stationed in the Golan Heights and the buffer zone. He also stated that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the new Syrian army would not be allowed to advance south of Damascus. Netanyahu warned that Israel would not tolerate any threats against the Druze community in southern Syria.
Protests Against Israeli Interference
Following these statements from Israeli leaders, large-scale protests erupted in Syria’s Daraa and Suwayda provinces against Israeli intervention. Local citizens and communities demanded that Israel stay out of Syria’s internal affairs. Some protesters accused Israel of attempting to destabilize the country and employing divisive politics.
The political landscape in Syria following the power shift has garnered global attention. As various factions, including Israel, Tahrir al-Sham, and the Kurds, find their interests clashing, some nations have expressed concern over Israel’s stance. However, many Syrians perceive it as unwarranted Israeli interference. The coming days will reveal how this evolving situation unfolds and how the international community responds.
