OIC Minister of Foreign Affairs Holds Session to Discuss Blasphemy of Al-Qur'an
The foreign ministers of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an online meeting to discuss the blasphemy of the Koran in Sweden and Denmark. Salwan Momika, an Iraqi refugee who burned the Koran in front of the Stockholm mosque under the protection of Swedish police on June 28, has again committed acts of blasphemy against the Koran by trampling on the holy book of Muslims which was carried out simultaneously with the action of burning the Iraqi flag in in front of the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm. On July 21, members of the Danish anti-Islam and extremist group Danske Patrioter burned Korans in front of the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen.
The Al-Shoruk News website reported that the foreign ministers of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held an online meeting on Monday (31/7/2023) to review acts of blasphemy against the Koran in Sweden and Denmark. In this virtual meeting, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will take decisions regarding the increase in Islamophobia in Europe and the adoption of a common position by the member states of the organization against this offensive. Last week, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation suspended the activities of the representatives of the Kingdom of Sweden in this organization due to the desecration of the Koran in Stockholm. Following the insult to the Qur'an, Islamic countries and international religious and human rights organizations condemned the insult, and demanded not to repeat the blasphemy against religious values that are respected by their adherents.(PH)
