OpenAI Report: Israel Manipulates Indian Public Opinion with Artificial Intelligence

Israelis are reportedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to create and edit articles and polls on social media platforms in India. This content was shared on social media platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

OpenAI's research reveals that Israel-based company STOIC operates by identifying divisions among parties in India, such as the BJP, and producing content based on these divisions. This content was designed to stifle public criticism of Israel in India and increase division within India.

The Israeli group's covert operations were aimed at manipulating negative public opinion against Israel and influencing political outcomes in different regions. According to the OpenAI report, these Israeli actors attempted to mislead the Indian public about who they are or what they want.

One of the activities of the Israeli influence was to like and encourage the comments of some Indian users on social media and to attack other Indian users.

Further details on how much using AI has created the divide between Hindus and Muslims in India have yet to be released.

A Dangerous Threat to Democracy

Reacting strongly to the allegations made in the report, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, "It is absolutely clear that the BJP has been and continues to be the target of information operations, disinformation and interference." Describing this Israeli action as a dangerous threat to Indian democracy, he said: "It is clear: Their interests are clearly driving this and it requires in-depth scrutiny and disclosure."
